Donkey Rides/Donkey Care
Children have enjoyed riding the donkeys on Camp Magruder's many trails, including
the beach for more than 50 years. The camp presently has a stable of three donkeys fondly known as Abraham, Caleb, and Jenny. The veterinarian who has provided care to these animals for many years determined that it was time that Abraham and Caleb should retire. Appropriate retirement celebrations were enjoyed by each, the highlight of which was a special oatmeal/carrot "cake." Jenny is still able to give a limited number of rides - up to 4 a day. Riders must weigh less than 100 pounds. A staff facilitator must be scheduled to lead rides in advance (cost is $2 per person). Campers may learn about donkey care and help with the care and feeding of the animals both morning and late afternoon. Check with a staff member for specific times.
